SEPTEMBER 6

Joining the ranks of those who have loaned their surnames to new instruments—Leon Theremin, Adolphe Sax, and Simeon among them—assures Robert Fripp’s place in the pantheon of musical inventors. “Frippertronics” are featured on two collaborative albums with Brian Eno, Fripp’s group work with King Crimson, and now on A Blessing of Tears, and 1999 Soundscapes, collections of “solo soundscapes” that reflect Fripp’s pioneering ambient guitar as well as his Guitar Player magazine-oriented noodling. The California Guitar Trio and Los Gauchos Alemanes open at 8 p.m. at Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall, 37th & O Sts. NW. $20. (202) 393-0930. (Christopher Porter)
