JONETTA ROSE BARRAS IS a good writer and did her usual good job in “The Man in Control” (8/11).

I question, however, her comment that unidentified colleagues of John Hill’s at the General Accounting Office GAO say it is “common knowledge” there that he’s gay. Why is this relevant to the job he’s doing? Or anything?

The only reason to raise the issue would be the possibility that he is only staffing his office with homosexuals and discriminating against heterosexuals, but Barras makes no such charge, or any other that relates to Hill’s sexual orientation.

I think you owe Hill an apology.
