Shane MacGowan’s The Snake boasts his best songs since Rum, Sodomy & the Lash, when he was an indentured servant with Irish folk-rock fakirs the Pogues. Now, like a lush who’s found a cozy new watering hole, MacGowan clearly enjoys rocking out with his new mates, a sloppy bar band called the Popes. He can still croak out those ancient-sounding ballads he scribbled on a napkin on his last bender; as long as he stays away from Van “Ol’ Moody Bastard” Morrison, he’ll do just fine. Waltons open at 10 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $20. (202) 667-7960. (Eddie Dean)
