LOVED CLARA JEFFERY’S story on Pigstown (7/21). It reflected very clearly the atmosphere at the sanctuary and the love Jim and Dale have for all their residents. Having recently visited there myself, it made for a wonderful memory of the day.

One clarification is necessary as regards Hope, the pig attacked by dogs. The animal control division was adamantly opposed to returning Hope to her owner. The Animal Control Commission and others wanted to return Hope. The chief of Prince George’s County Animal Control, Mr. George Whiting, vigorously opposed the commission’s decision and was the one who arranged for Hope to go to the sanctuary in the first place. Mr. Whiting and the staff at the P.G. County shelter deserve a lot of credit for saving Hope, too.

Beyond that, thanks for a great article on this subject and for enlightening the public about exotic animals not being good house pets!
