AUGUST 10
The pairing of Björk (pictured) and Aphex Twin—dance and electronic music’s foremost artists—should make for an exhilarating double-bill. Björk’s third solo album, Post, furthers her intelligent, postmodern pastiche of techno (“Army of Me”), big band (“It’s Oh So Quiet”), and pop balladry (“You’ve Been Flirting Again”). Her waifish voice can turn into a lioness’s growl as quickly as her music changes genres. Aphex Twin’s I Care Because You Do features a sardonic self-portrait by mastermind Richard James that echoes the album’s wry title. James conjures dense, intensely loud performance pieces at ear-atrophying levels that, when combined with his surreal light show, can cause delirium among even the sober. At 8 p.m. at the Capitol Ballroom, 1015 Half St. SE. $20. (703) 549-7625. (Christopher Porter)
