Michael Gira and Jarboe, the prolific progenitors of the mystical folk-rock group Swans, have both already released solo albums this year. The pair’s contemporary music isn’t bludgeoning like early Swans, but Gira and Jarboe’s sepulchral lyrics are as flagellating as ever. Gira’s baritone burrows beneath his repetitive electro-acoustic compositions, while Jarboe’s operatic howl soars like that of an ecstatic Wailing Wall worshiper. Rex opens at 10:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 930 F St. NW. $12. (202) 393-0930. (CP)
