THE REVIEW OF BANDIT Queen was unbelievably shallow, shortsighted, and ethnocentric (Film, 6/30). Mark Jenkins thought the movie would work better as a “Hong Kong-style” action flick? Obviously Jenkins was not able to appreciate the dynamic (and skillfully done) juxtaposition of the political and cultural themes throughout the movie. By wanting to reduce it to a genre that he understands, he is insulting the filmmaker and the audience.
