Conservative talk-radio and television star Armstrong Williams has a pearly smile, a golden voice, and—judging by his book Beyond Blame: How We Can Succeed by Breaking the Dependency Barrier—a tin ear. Like his broadcasts, Williams’ magnum opus (or perhaps minimum opus—it’s barely 100 pages long) overflows with bully moralism and right-wing homilies. But unlike his boisterous on-air performances, Williams’ writing is ponderous and didactic. He reads at 6 p.m. at Vertigo Books, 1337 Connecticut Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 429-9272. (David Plotz)
