The eclectic “Freedom Jazz Festival” promises to be a delirious attack on the senses. Latin jazz by Rhumba Club and Dutch-Latin group Nueva Manteca will collide with the idiosyncratic, multilayered avant-garde music of Holland’s Willem Breuker Kollektief and the Andrew White Quartet‘s commissioned work honoring World Saxophone Quartet co-founder Julius Hemphill. David Murray, Hemphill’s fellow mastermind in W.S.Q., pays tribute to pianist/organist Don Pullen, who recently succumbed to cancer. Murray, a prolific multireedist who has recorded more than 180 albums, is an esoteric performer, comfortably straddling free music, neo-classical jazz, funk, and world music with enlightening results. From 2-9 p.m. at Freedom Plaza, 13th & Pennsylvania Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 783-0360. (CP)
