JULY 1

Exhilaratingly eclectic, Papa Wemba’s new Emotion was produced by Stephen Hague, but such songs as the kinetic “Yolele” sound more like the soukous of his native Zaire than the Pet Shop Boys’ electropop. South African reggae utopian Lucky Dube’s (pictured) latest, Trinity, is almost as upbeat, although it suffers a bit from having lyrics in English. Wemba and Dube (pictured) are featured in Kilimanjaro’s “African Music Summer Fest,” which also includes Mali’s Kasse Mady. At 9 p.m. at Kilimanjaro, 1724 California St. NW. $22. (202) 328-3838.
