I AM WRITING IN REFerence to your review of LuAnn Hampton Laverty Oberlander (Theater, 5/19). I regard your review as one of the most honest and well-thought-out pieces on the show. While I agree with you that this is a very observational play, I differ with your present opinion of the playwright, Preston Jones. This was my first experience with his works, and I found his characters very real and still accessible to today’s audiences. I also thought that the observational style of LuAnn is a refreshing change of pace from most of today’s fare.
I wonder what my feelings will be on this play in 20 years. I hope we’re both around to debate!
