There’s a right way, there’s a wrong way, and now there’s a Harry Thomas Way. Last Wednesday, a private street that runs through the Capital Commerce Center, a parcel in Northeast that is home to Federal Express, was officially dedicated as “Harry Thomas Way.” In front of fellow councilmembers, neighborhood leaders, and “community children,” as a press release put it, Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas unveiled the monument to his ceaseless lobbying on behalf of CSX, the developer of the site. Justine Griffin, spokeswoman for CSX, acknowledged that Thomas, who is head of the D.C. Council’s public works committee, “was tremendously helpful” in pushing the project through the community public hearing and zoning process. Capital Commerce Center, Griffin says, is a “success story to both the owners and the community.”
