Though Social Distortion long ago abandoned spiked hair and heavy eyeliner for the DA’d grease-monkey look, the band continues to combine punk’s simplistic three-chord approach with the loud crush of Marshall stacks. Gone too are angst-drenched classics like “Mommy’s Little Monster” and “Another State of Mind”—they’ve been replaced with the adult realism of “Ball and Chain” and “Story of My Life.” Despite the shift, Mike Ness’ gritty vocals and hard-luck lyrics still strike a nerve with his followers. With Bouncing Souls at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. N.W. $10. (202) 667-7960. (Ben Buja)
