Described as “Yalta with more beer and better music,” the Local Music Summit is slated for June 9-11 at the Washington Project for the Arts. The two-day/three-night event includes seminars on topics like “Attracting Label Interest,” panel discussions with industry insiders, and plenty of live music. The Summit is sponsored by the Local Music Store Distribution Network, an organization that helps members—mostly unsigned, East Coast artists—distribute their music to retailers. “The purpose of the Local Music Summit is twofold,” says LMS’s Robin Rohrback, “first, to educate musicians, give them the nuts and bolts of the industry, and secondly, to pull the music scene together.” LMS bands perform throughout the weekend, and Friday night’s 18-band concert showcase featuring D.C. bands the True, Atticus Finch, and the Excentrics is open to the public. For registration information call the Local Music Store at (703) 641-8995.
