Tuscadero/Robinson, a 7-inch platter of seven remixes by Teenbeat boss Mark Robinson, doesn’t quite transform the winsome pop tunes from the D.C. quartet’s The Pink Album into dance-floor monsters. Robinson decorates such tracks as “The Sky Is Cold Blue,” “Pleasure Idle,” and “I Am King Oil” with boisterous electronics, but this still isn’t exactly Nitzer Ebb. Most striking are “Paper Crown” and “Sweet Sweet Sugar Pops,” which largely strip away the band’s garage-band guitars to reveal a dulcet minimalism that’s equal parts ethereal doo-wop and bratty bubblegum. The EP is $3 from Teenbeat, P.O. Box 3265, Arlington, VA 22203.
Indie’s List Luminous Flux, a New York label, is assembling a catalog of unsigned bands that have released CDs, records, or tapes. The directory, the company says, will be sent to music directors at college and “modern rock” radio stations, and will also be made available via an 800 number and the Internet. Bands should send a copy of their release, with bio and photo, to Luminous Flux, P.O. Box 519, Glenwood Landing, NY 11547.
