With Muffs songwriter/guitarist Kim Shattuck doing less shrieking and more singing, the L.A. outfit’s second release, Blonder and Blonder, offers a crisper take on their largely ignored debut’s high-velocity pop-punk sound. The band’s simple three-chord attack and Joan Jett-like vocals may lack the knockout hooks necessary to make heavy rotation on MTV, but they generate an agreeable buzz nonetheless.
