Brooding about fear and whiskey and failed relationships, part-time Mekon Sally Timms croons like a post-punk Jean Rhys. On her own, she’s still groping for a suitable backdrop for her exquisitely cynical voice; her solo work lacks the bite she brings to such Mekons’ minidramas as “Oblivion” and “If They Hang You.” Joining Timms on tour are bandmates Steve Goulding and Jon Langford, whose latest side project is a country band with a German-label debut, Jon Langford & the Pine Valley Cosmonauts Explore the Dark and Lonely World of Johnny Cash.
