I READ WITH DISGUST YOUR “News of the Weird” (4/21), where you wrote about a group of deaf protesters proclaiming that they do not want to see any more implants.

I would have thought that in today’s age of cultural diversity, you would have known better than this.

I am a second-generation deaf person, and am with a third-generation deaf man. We hope to marry and produce deaf children.

If you had done your homework, and gotten rid of your absurd thinking, you would know that deafness is a glorious culture with its own beautiful language (that even has its own structure of grammar and order!)—and that it is people and newspapers like you that demonstrate the ugly side of humankind: stupidity.
