Since the early ’80s, Daniel Johnston’s erratic behavior has led to several stints in a Texas psychiatric hospital. Yet the prolific Johnston has crafted a catalog of unusually structured, austere-yet-catchy pop songs. In an effort to highlight the Austin solo performer’s musical talents, former Glass Eye vocalistKathy McCarty has released Dead Dog’s Eyeball, a collection featuring her interpretations of 18 Johnston originals. McCarty performs with Townies and Kevin Johnson at 8:30 p.m. at Republic Gardens, 1355 U St. NW. $5. (202) 232-2710. (SK)
