Critics gripe that Luscious Jackson is all derivative, fake funk and that the band rode the Beastie Boys’ coattails to Grand Royal glory. Well, that may be. But the quartet’s streetwise grooves evoke a gritty, fantasy urbanscape and its female musicians epitomize tough self-assuredness.
