Unlike other contemporary “folk” singers, England’s June Tabor has developed a fascinating repertoire including modern songs by the likes of Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson, and Oysterband’s Ian Telfer, in addition to the usual stock of traditional ballads. On studio recordings like Angel Tiger and Against the Streams, Tabor favors chamberlike arrangements that suit her deep alto perfectly, but tonight she appears in a pared-down setting that should provide an excellent showcase for her passionate singing. At 8 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3901 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $15. (703) 549-5919. (Ken Roseman)
