The past six months have been unkind to Mojo Nixon. It started with the Eagles, who reunited in flagrant defiance of Nixon’s lyric, “Don Henley must die/Don’t let him get back together with Glenn Frey.” Then, in a USA Today photo caption, Nixon was misidentified as the 13th Floor Elevators’ Roky Erickson while attending Austin’s South-by-Southwest conference. But Nixon’s spirit isn’t broken. On an acidic new rock ‘n’ roll album with backup band the Toadliquors, he rails against everything from Morrissey—in a cover of the Smiths’ “Girlfriend in a Coma”—to McDonald’s. Igniting tonight’s hootenanny will be locals Jumpin’ Jupiter at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 930 F St. NW. $9. (202) 393-0930. (Ben Buja)
