Although he’s famous for producing albums for Nirvana and the Pixies, Steve Albini’s musical success has been marginal at best. Now, after the collapse of Big Black and other side projects, Albini has Shellac, which highlights his distortion-riddled, high-velocity guitar mayhem. Don’t look for a reincarnation of BB, but expect the guttural sound that put the ’80s Chicago scene on the map. Shellac is joined by Mt. Shasta, Harvey Milk, and Brick Layer Cake at 8 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. $7. (202) 667-7960. (Ben Buja)
