MARCH 17

The Buddhist and Hindu traditions that once thrived in Indonesia survive only in Bali, where they have evolved distinct ritual forms. Cycles of the Soul, a 60-minute documentary by Lorne Blair, offers a glimpse of the 1992 cremation at the court of Gianyar, one of the most elaborate recent examples of such ceremonies, which are now at risk of disappearing—or of degenerating into tourist attractions. At 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. March 19 at the Freer Gallery’s Meyer Auditorium, 12th & Jefferson Dr. SW. FREE. (202) 357-3200. (Mark Jenkins)
