Women flying military aircraft is still a sometimes controversial notion, but 50 years ago a thousand women, dubbed WASPs, flew planes for the American war effort. Silver Wings and Santiago Blue, an hour-long documentary made in 1980, looks back at the efforts of these women pilots, who weren’t officially recognized by Congress until 35 years after World War II ended.
