Last month, Metro tried to cut many city bus routes. Public outrage forced the transit agency to retain a shortened version of the No. 42, but only after Metro installed spiffy bus- schedule holders at its Metro Center sales/information center. These new racks only provide slots for the schedules of routes Metro intended to run, which means there’s no slot for the 42, one of the city’s busiest lines. Faced with repeated queries for the 42 schedule last week, the kiosk attendant could only look at the new holders and shrug.
