Sixteen years ago, Seattle’s Fastbacks began happily bashing out speedy pop-punk with mellifluous girl-group vocals, and as the band’s recent Answer the Phone, Dummy demonstrates, its style has changed little in the intervening years. While guitarist Kurt Bloch’s songwriting approach may never yield an album’s worth of evocative arrangements, Dummy, like previous ‘backs releases, boasts a number of propulsive, sugar-sweet ditties that should appeal to Green Day and Buzzcocks fans alike. With Motocaster and Chisel at 9 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1841 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960. (Steve Kiviat)
