Have your chain saw and machete been gathering dust since you gave up juggling? Put them to use once again at the Seventh Annual Ice Carving Competition, where participants chisel and shave solid chunks of water into ephemeral masterpieces. WJLA weatherman Dennis Ketterer MCs the event; Redskins quarterback Heath Shuler and Capitals mascot Winger the Eagle will drop in for a visit; and the Dixie Cats counteract the chill in the air by performing New Orleans-style Dixieland jazz. And remember, this is a “NICA (National Ice Carving Association) sanctioned event,” so careers hang in the balance. From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the ANA Hotel’s Bistro restaurant, 2401 M St. NW. FREE (concession proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital). (202) 429-2400. (Nathalie op de Beeck)
