How to direct Waiting for Godot and the rest of Samuel Beckett’s austere, enigmatic canon? There are at least as many answers as there are prominent directors of Beckett—22—represented in Directing Beckett, a new collection of interviews with and essays by such directors. Among them is Scena Theater’s Robert McNamara, who directed Krapp’s Last Tape in Dublin almost 20 years ago and more recently has staged Havel/Beckett and Endgame in Washington. McNamara reads from his Beckett essay at 7 p.m. at Chapters, 1512 K St. NW. FREE. (202) 347-5495. (MJ)
