There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
MARCH 4 & 5
You won’t hear “Prayer for the Dying” during this weekend’s Seal Day festivities, but it would be sadly appropriate. The cute, cuddly pinnipeds are disappearing faster than you can shake a stick at them—that’s why zoos and research centers around the globe are inviting the curious to learn more about the care and feeding of the 1-ton, 10-foot-long sea beasts. In addition to witnessing training demonstrations and feedings, visitors can have their pictures taken with a life-size model of a sea lion. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the National Zoo, 3001 Connecticut Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 673-4717. (Dave Nuttycombe)
