Many of the rituals that Americans have developed in preparation for marriage are not yet codified: Brides-to-be and their mothers engage in a months-long pas de deux of guilt and self-sacrifice; grooms-to-be play passive-aggressive possum as they pretend not to care about minute details they secretly intend to control absolutely; prospective grooms’ parents alternately seethe with resentment at being left out and thank God they don’t have to pay for anything. The Journal newspapers’ Spring Bridal Celebration will celebrate this perverse behavior with festivities including two fashion shows, the displayed wares and services of 40 area vendors, and the chance of a honeymoon trip for a “lucky” couple. From 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Fair Lakes, 12777 Fair Lakes Circle, Fairfax. $12. (800) 531-1223. (James Lochart)
