The fourth annual East Coast Jazz Festival presents four days of music and lectures covering the wide spectrum of sounds that is jazz. Sponsored by the Fish Middleton Jazz Scholarship Fund (in memory of D.C. jazz DJ Elmore “Fish” Middleton), the festival is dedicated to the promotion of American jazz and jazz education. Middle-school, high-school, and collegiate bands are scheduled along with professional artists, and there are workshops and seminars covering everything from “The Business of Music” to “How to Use Your Voice.” Many local heroes like Buck Hill and Charlie Byrd will play, but the highlight may well be fiery New Jersey pianist Bobby Enriquez, whose recent album, The Wild Man Returns, features an incredibly tight, maniacally energetic recording of the Dizzy Gillespie classic “Groovin’ High.” See concert listings for times and prices.
