Though last year’s Crystal Waters single, “100 Pure Love,” was more conventional than her minimalist 1991 hit “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless),” it was a striking piece of dance-club soul. Baltimore’s Basement Boys provide the backing tapes for Waters’ live performances, but audiences can expect the one-time D.C. computer technician’s vocals to be all there—she reportedly took voice lessons to expand her range prior to recording her latest, Storyteller.
