Jamaica’s Skatalites once sold a tour T-shirt that read “Ska, Reggae, Rocksteady: It All Began With the Skatalites.” The band wasn’t exaggerating. Now, 30 years after this nine-piece, horn-led ensemble’s incarnation, and despite several membership changes, its latest release, Hi-Bop Ska, demonstrates an ongoing ability to keep its bouncy brass-filled arrangements alive and vibrant. Featuring a number of guest musicians including jazz horn players Lester Bowie and David Murray, Ska beautifully captures the band’s bubbly take on its country’s unique rhythms. With Jumpstarts at 8:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 930 F St. NW. $12. (202) 393-0930. (Steve Kiviat)
