FEBRUARY 6

In A Fresh of Breath Air, Dale Stein spends 75 minutes creating a madcap cafe at which the Madwoman of Chaillot would feel right at home. When proprietress Fifi urges her chairs to arrange themselves wherever they like, one floats straight to the ceiling, and patrons will feel similarly giddy once the establishment’s hilariously conflicted regulars arrive (all played by Stein with a minimum of costuming fuss). Among them: a retired actress who slurps martinis to lubricate her memoirs; a giddily talentless Madonna-wanna-be who has a floppy disk strapped to her head and claims to have a plastic brain; and an antisocial architect whose skyscrapers are three stories of glass-enclosed ocean topped by 33-story waterfalls. As dreamers, they’re right in tune with the benefit for freshly privatized Round House Theater of which they’re a part. A $25 ticket includes the 7:30 p.m. show and a dessert reception after; for $40, the theater will throw in a pre-show champagne reception with the star. At 7:30 p.m. at the Round House Theater, 12210 Bushey Dr., Silver Spring. (301) 933-1644. (Bob Mondello)
