There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
I WAS MOVED BY LOOSE Lips’ brief but eloquent appreciation of Ted Gay (1/20). It was vivid and succinct.
In such a fine piece, I regretted only the reference to Sharon Pratt Kelly’s “trying to play racial politics” in regard to Gay’s advice; this was a gross distortion.
True, she blundered in trying to push a homeless shelter in shelterless Ward 3 without the neighborhood’s input and participation, an action which both Gay and I tried to dissuade her from. I do know that she learned from her mistake.
Throughout both her campaigns for mayor (among all candidates) and her term as mayor, she was always open equally to all races and ethnic groups; it was the city to which she was intensely loyal.
I challenge anyone to show that Kelly stooped to playing racial politics either rhetorically or through her actions.
