Given that D.C.’s most popular nickname is “Murder Capital U.S.A.,” Washingtonians should welcome the recently announced PR campaign by the Greater Washington Board of Trade to sell the metro area to high-tech firms. According to the Washington Post, the Board of Trade dubbed the $10-million effort “The Greater Washington Initiative,” but only after rejecting “Potomac Triangle,” “Capital Triangle,” and oddest of all, “Golden Concourse,” which sounds like a hangout for those who fantasize about pissing at airports. Personally, we feel that an area that has seen revenue and residents disappear should stay away from the word “triangle.” On the other hand, why not focus on D.C.’s leading industry and go with “The Golden Triangle”?
