Local rock fans who remember the early-’70s scene will surely recall Grin, the D.C. band fronted by Nils Lofgren; the band’s best songs are among the era’s most stirring examples of powerful pop. Those who don’t remember “Moontears” shouldn’t feel bad—the attorneys retained by I.R.S. apparently don’t either. The label’s new three-band sampler, Six-Sided Single, includes two songs by a California trio also called Grin. The band’s neo-psychedelic post-punk is not bad, but it’s safe to say that singer/songwriter/guitarist Brett White is no Nils Lofgren.
