Like Mark Twain, the American humorist whom he most closely resembles, monologuist/performance artist Eric Bogosian likes nothing better than giving America a swift kick in the groin. When he takes the stage, no one, not even his audience, is safe. His fans laugh hysterically when he lampoons a coked-up Hollywood agent or a fatuous British rock star, but as soon as he begins dissecting their dreary middle-class suburban lives, they stop chuckling and start getting angry. See Bogosian rant and rave at 8 p.m. tonight and tomorrow at the Barns of Wolf Trap, 1624 Trap Rd., Vienna. $20. (703) 938-2404; Bogosian signs copies of The Essential Bogosian and Pounding Nails Into the Floor With My Forehead at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow at Borders, 1801 K St. NW. FREE. (202) 466-4999. (David Plotz)
