You can tell Babe the Blue Ox is an art band: The New York trio has a woman drummer and its “Everybody Wants You” rhymes “universal groove” with “Louvre.” There’s a fair amount of rootsy directness in that and other Ox songs, though; “Agent 6950” combines breathy lyrics (by the bassist, a woman too) with guitar that rumbles more like Link Wray than Delacroix. With Sevens, featuring Mark and Bobby Sullivan, at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $5. (202) 667-7960. (MJ)
