The spatial, painterly quality that characterizes soprano saxophonist/composer Jane Ira Bloom‘s recorded output (which includes two criminally deleted masterpieces recorded for Columbia, Modern Drama and Slalom) and her interest in dance, sports, (see Drama‘s darting “NFL”), and technology made her the perfect choice to compose a work commissioned by NASA. Bloom performs her “Most Distant Galaxy” at a concert titled “Night Skywriting II,” which will feature Bloom, drummer Jerry Granelli, bassist Mark Dresser, and the Einstein Planetarium’s equally astonishing (projected) imagery. At 8 p.m. at the Air & Space Museum’s Einstein Planetarium, 6th & Independence Ave. SW. FREE. (202) 357-2700. (Reuben Jackson)
