Thurston Moore—Sonic Youth’s eternally boyish noise-guitar guru. Still worshipped by “the kids” after more than two decades in the post-punk trenches, Moore has become something of a father figure to a new generation of freak-flag flyin’ acts such as the Magik Markers, Wooden Wand, and MV & EE, all of which are signed to his underground label, Ecstatic Peace! (Earnest enthusiasm or artistic vampirism? Whatever it takes to stay fresh.) Moore’s atonally elegant axwork has played a huge part in Sonic Youth’s ever-evolving sound, and his latest solo effort, Trees Outside the Academy, contains several cuts that wouldn’t feel out of place on an album by his main band. Yet the beardo jams of his protégés have obviously made an impact; acoustic arpeggios are now as prevalent as electric splatter. Call it aging gracefully. Moore performs with Christina Carter at 9:30 p.m. at the Rock and Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE. $15. (202) 388-7625.
