Kites does not soar, it bores holes. A one-man band consisting of Providence, R.I., resident Christopher Forgues, some oscillators, and whatever creepy thoughts are consuming him, Kites’ distorted electronic buzzings are powerful enough to dig shafts into the temporal bones of your skull. Suffice it to say that Forgues’ music isn’t exactly for Nickelback fans, but those taken with the prospect of a concert-as-meatball-surgery should definitely clear their schedules. Running the sonic gamut from Roky Erickson deathtrip space-outs to chilly analog-circuit-driven sonic wastelands, an evening with Kites promises to be ugly, alienating, frightening, and liable to cause some type of minor brain damage. Kites performs with Black Pus, Videohippos, MM/DD/YYYY, and Russian Tsarlag at 9 p.m. at the Velvet Lounge, 915 U St. NW. $8. (202) 462-3213.
