Everybody likes Vince Gill. And why not? Fluffy ballads like the title track of his latest, I Still Believe in You, have made him Nashville’s answer to Luther Vandross. But long before achieving heartthrob status, Gill already stood among the finest instrumentalists in country music, a reputation he acquired while a featured player of Sam Bush’s Bluegrass Alliance and Rodney Crowell’s Cherry Bombs. And though his sweet falsetto is primarily responsible for all the Grammys and CMA awards that have come his way, Gill is one of the few Music City luminaries to rely almost exclusively on self-penned material. Larry Stewart opens at 8 p.m. at the Wolf Trap Filene Center, 1624 Trap Rd., Vienna. $14-22. (703) 255-1860. (Dave McKenna)
