KanKouran West African Dance Company is 10 years old this year, and the acclaimed local troupe is celebrating by joining with African companies from around the U.S. for its annual five-day dance-and-drum conference. Known for its high-energy Senegalese dances, blazing traditional costumes, and percussion that can just about blow the roof off an arena, KanKouran explores the spiritual roots that bind Africans in America, the Caribbean, and elsewhere. Tonight, KanKouran’s Senior, Junior, and Children’s Companies—accompanied by a host of guest artists—will all take the stage for the traditional concert. At 8 p.m. at George Washington University Lisner Auditorium, 730 21st St. NW. $8-16. (202) 737-4941. (Alan Green)
