If, like Minniver Cheevy, you love “the days of old/When swords were bright and steeds were prancing,” your time has come again. This year’s Maryland Renaissance Festival offers the spectacle of jousting knights, magicians, sword-swallowers, and the royal court of Henry VIII. Visitors may also experience Renaissance eating habits by washing down immense smoked turkey legs with oversize glasses of mead and wiping their mouths on their sleeves afterward. Fridays and Saturdays through October 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the festival fairgrounds, Rte. 450 & Crownsville Rd., Crownsville. $4.95-10.95. (800) 296-7304. (David Plotz)
