The Mount Pleasant riots cost the city a grand total of two businesses, Church’s Fried Chicken and the Ontario Discount Center, a clothing store in the former Ontario Theater. Church’s remains boarded up and fenced, but now Leon Seltzer, the proprietor of the Ontario, is back in business—in Wheaton, where he recently opened a vintage clothing store. Seltzer’s insurance did not cover damage from “insurgency,” he says. He sued the city, but he ran out of money to pay lawyers before the case made it to court. In Wheaton, we’re pretty sure, the risk of a Mount Unpleasantness is drastically lower.
