The bracing music and sociopolitical stance of bassist/composer Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra is certainly in keeping with the work of jazz innovators like saxophonist Ornette Coleman (with whom Haden first recorded “Song for Che (Guevara)”) and forward-looking players such as current Howard University artist-in-residence Geri Allen. The orchestra, which features standout players like trombonist Ray Anderson, saxophonists Joe Lovano and Makada Ken McIntyre, and French horn virtuoso Sharon Freeman, performs with the Duke Ellington High School Show Choir at 8 p.m. Duke Ellington School for the Arts, 35th & R Sts. NW. $12-15. (202) 783-0360. (Reuben Jackson)
