There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.

Pity the future discographers who try to sort out the recording careers of ’90s bands that participated in the 7-inch counterrevolution. Loyal Dischorders Severin, for example, also release singles on their own Superbad label and now have a Sub Pop singles-club offering, “Waste of Time”/“Powerplay.” The latter tune is middling post- hardcore, but “Time” is no waste. Surging and sweeping, the song’s guitars give punk apocalypticism (the lyrics invoke time bombs, tombstones, and the Berlin Wall) a near-heroic cast, but without sacrificing any scruffy vigor to pomp. Sub Pop’s address is P.O. Box 20645, Seattle, WA 98102.
