In an effort to counter the everyday volley of verbal abuse that women experience on city streets, filmmaker Maggie Hadleigh-West walked Manhattan with a handheld camera, turning it on her intimidators in an effort to intimidate them in turn. The resulting 13-minute film, War Zone: A Filmmaker’s Dialogue, finds Hadleigh-West making two disheartening if predictable discoveries: First, that verbal harassment is as frequent as it is maddening (during a seven-and-a-half hour period, she calculated, 112 men harassed her); second, that, to your average catcaller, the only thing funnier than women in general is an angry woman with a camera. At 8 p.m. at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden’s Ring Auditorium, 8th & Independence Ave. SW. FREE. (202) 357-2700. (Nicole Arthur)
